During the month of February hearts, roses and chocolates seem to be at every turn. This is the month of Valentine’s Day. A day when you show those you love just how much you love them by showering them with cards, candy and proclamations of your love for them. I know some people who boycott this holiday because they believe showing those we love that we love them should be an everyday thing and not relegated to just one day. Part of me agrees but part of me likes have a special day that is set aside to celebrate the love I have for my husband, daughter, friends and family. But, I do agree, showing love to those around us has to be daily. It has to be something that happens as easily as breathing. We are commanded to love. To love God and to love others. My challenge to each of us is to find ways to show those around us love, every day. Show love to God by dedicating your life to Him. Hold nothing back. Give your all to Him and be ready to be amazed at how much better you can love others. When you are filled with God you are filled with Love because God is Love! Love your family and friends. Tell them with your words and show them with your actions how much you love them. Then love your neighbor as yourself. This means you need to love yourself well so be sure you take care of yourself. Then comes the one many of us struggle with the most loving our neighbor. We have to love our neighbor across the street. We have to love our neighbor on the other side of the world. Loving our neighbor across the street might mean we shovel their driveway after a big snow. We take a pot of soup to them one night if we hear they are not feeling well. We offer to walk their dog if they are out-of-town. But how can we love our neighbor on the other side of the world? Compassion Services International has many ways to help you show love and put love in action to thousands of people around the world.

Compassion Sunday is on Sunday, 2/22/15. This is an annual event that Compassion Services International holds on the last Sunday of February each year. Many times we are asked why should I give on Compassion Sunday? Why can’t I just give when a need is presented? Why does CSI need to have ongoing donations when they are not actively responding to a disaster or need? These are valid questions. So why should people give on Compassion Sunday? Why does CSI need ongoing support? When crisis hits and disaster strikes it happens quickly and most of the time with little or no warning. This means that victims don’t have the chance to prepare in advance. This is why CSI needs to have funds immediately available. We can step in and provide the urgent needs without delay. Think about it. If you were faced with a natural disaster and you lost everything and you didn’t have a way to feed yourself or your family would you want to wait for days or weeks for help to arrive? CSI doesn’t want people in need to have to be in the position of waiting for help to arrive. CSI wants to be able to provide for immediate needs. The only way this can happen is if we have reserve funds. So now you might be asking yourself, how do I give? Where do I give? CSI offers several easy and secure ways for donors to give to a variety of funds. You can learn more about all of the different funds HERE.
